Hot Property: New TAFE NSW Course Offers Locals a Gateway to Booming Real Estate Industry

A TAFE NSW course empowering locals to tap into the booming real estate industry is being offered at Albury for the first time ever this month.

Amid a surge in local property prices, TAFE NSW Albury has launched a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, the minimum required qualification to gain a real estate agent certificate of registration.

According to data from the Australian Government’s Job Outlook, the number of real estate agents nationwide grew from 84,300 to 92,400 between 2014 and 2019, and continued growth is expected.

Enrolments are still open for the TAFE NSW Albury course, starting on 12 July and being delivered by virtual classroom.

TAFE NSW real estate teacher and industry veteran of more than 20 years Sarena Seovic will deliver the course and said it was an ideal time to explore a career in property.

“It’s a very diverse industry and can be both financially and professionally rewarding,” Ms Seovic said.

“Property prices are booming and the population is growing, and that brings with it opportunities in the industry.”

Ms Seovic said the course was tailored to aspiring or new entrants to the industry, who needed to meet the minimum educational requirements set by Fair Trading NSW to earn a Class 2 real estate license.

She said the course included units in preparing for professional practice in real estate; legal requirements of the industry; establishing a marketing and communication profile; and preparing to work with trust accounts. The course runs on a Wednesday and Thursday night during term for 12 months but students can earn the Class 2 licence within four months of commencement, Ms Seovic said.

Regional NSW mum-of-four Kerrie Fitzgerald, one of a host of students who have already enrolled in the course, said a sales background and an interest in renovating homes had given her a taste for a career in real estate.

“I’m currently working in the property management side of real estate but I have always had a dream of being in sales and completing this course is one step closer to making this a reality,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

“I need my Class 2 license to sell and I know TAFE NSW gives students the hands-on, practical skills to really make a running start in a new job.”
