Indigo Valley’s much loved The Watchbox cafe has reopened after Jemma Taylor and Rick Taylor took ownership of the property in September 2018.

Just eight months after moving in, and with a lot of hard work and support from family and friends, Jemma and Rick relaunched the cafe in May.

“It’s something we’ve always wanted to do. We saw the property advertised in the paper and decided to check it out. Next thing we knew it was ours,” said Jemma.

Jemma and Rick are thrilled with the response from the local community, who came in droves on the opening weekend to try the woodfired pizza and craft beers brewed on site.

“We had over 100 people come through and it’s such a great feeling to see everyone enjoying themselves after we’ve worked day and night to get this off the ground,” said Jemma.

And it almost didn’t happen; in early May on a particularly stormy evening the property was flooded.

The owners, their staff and family from Albury travelled to The Watchbox to dig trenches and sweep water out of the cafe late at night.

Jemma said it’s this community and family spirit that makes The Watchbox so special.

“It’s all hands on deck and you feel that when you’re here. We love being a space for locals to share a meal, share stories and be with each other, that’s what it’s all about.”

The Watchbox at 1150 Indigo Valley Road, Indigo Valley is open Friday and Saturday, 11am to 11pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm.
